Apply to be a First Year LinC Peer Instructor

Peer Instructors are successful sophomore, junior, and senior students who are interested in helping new students transition to Illinois State. The primary responsibility of a Peer Instructor is to help with a section of LinC, an 8-week seminar designed to assist freshmen in their transition to Illinois State by providing tools to help them succeed. The focus of the course remains on three major themes: transition to the university, major and career exploration as well as civic engagement.

Peer Instructors assist an instructor with planning course activities, facilitating class discussions, and providing information to students on a peer level. Peer Instructors also serve as mentors and role models. The role of a Peer Instructor is both an honor and a rewarding opportunity for professional and personal growth!

The LinC Peer Instructor position is a paid position!

Applicants must be

  • At least sophomore at the start of employment in August 2017
  • In good standing with Illinois State University as it relates to student conduct
  • In good standing with Illinois State University as it relates to G.P.A., with a minimum of 2.5

Responsibilities and Expectations of a Peer Instructor include

  • Attend mandatory trainings in mid-August and late-April/early-May
  • Meet weekly with your LinC instructor
  • Attend scheduled mandatory monthly meetings/activities
  • Attend your assigned LinC class
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA

The application includes

  • A completed application through the HR website.
  • Submit supplemental questions to HR application:
    • Why you are interested in being a Peer Instructor for LinC?
    • Discuss three issues that first-year students encounter and how you would assist the students with these issues.
    • How will this position contribute to your personal and professional development?
