Only current Illinois State students can apply to the Interdisciplinary Studies - Multidisciplinary Studies sequence, after the completion of 15 semester hours of coursework. Start by filling out this inquiry form.
Applications are always available and are reviewed once a month several times a semester.
Only current Illinois State students are eligible for the IDS major. Current students who are interested in this sequence should start by filling out the Interdisciplinary Studies inquiry form. An academic mentor will contact you to discuss your options.
Students should select an appropriate faculty mentor to assist in developing a Plan of Study. Your Plan of Study must have a minimum of 36 hours from at least two departments or schools. These hours need to include at least 12 senior-college hours (classes at the 200-300 level) from each school or department. A maximum of 25 hours is allowed from any department or school.
If your proposed major is approved, your Plan of Study is filed with the Office of the University Registrar. At this point, the major is officially declared.
Changes in an approved plan of study must be authorized in advance. A letter outlining the proposed change and signed by the faculty mentor should be submitted to Patrick McNulty in University College.
