Developmental Math

Math is better here.

You’re good at math, and we can prove it. All you have to do is work with us.

Math at Illinois State

  1. First, we evaluate what you know about math.

Everyone needs to take math to earn a degree. If you’re in a class you’re not ready for or one that’s too difficult, it can cost you time, money, and lots of frustration.

We use ALEKS, an online assessment, to determine the best math class for you.

  2. Then, we put you in the right class.

Some students go straight to college-level math. Lots of students get extra help in developmental math. Your ALEKS score might place you in one of our developmental classes.

MAT 102 (Basic Algebra) lays the groundwork for a solid foundation in Algebra. Once you pass this class, you’ll move on to MAT 104.

MAT 104 (Intermediate Algebra) teaches you the skills you need for college algebra.

  3. Last, we help you thrive in math.

We’ll not only help you get through your developmental math course, we’ll help you get better at math in general.

    Learn from really good teachers.

How you learn math is unique to you. Our instructors will join you in your class and teach in ways that you can understand.

Get exclusive access to the math lab.

The lab is fully staffed with the best tutors, calculators, textbooks, and everything else you need. It’s only available to developmental math students, which means all focus is on you and your needs.
