Thriving in College, Career and Beyond
Thrive (IDS 128) is a 16 week, three credit-hour elective course designed to guide first-year students as they successfully transition to college and explore their potential career paths. This course provides students opportunities to develop the transferable skills they need in both their academic and professional life. Start your personal and professional journey with this course and thrive at Illinois State University. Interested students can sign up for the course during orientation.
Veterans and Military-Affiliated Student Seminar
Veterans and Military-Affiliated Student Seminar (IDS 122.02) is a 16-week, one-credit course that helps students affiliated with military service transition to the University community, Bloomington-Normal area, and civilian life. This seminar teaches you how to maximize the resources provided at Illinois State as well as those offered by the surrounding community. We focus on how to have a smooth transition to Illinois State, seek out new connections to campus and the community, and explore majors, minors, and careers.

Success 101
Success 101 (IDS 108) is a 16-week, two-credit hour seminar course designed for a select group of first-year students that provides a structured transition to college and ensures academic success. Students in Success 101 benefit from personalized academic coaching and peer mentoring in addition to personal attention at a large institution.
Transfer Student Seminar
Transfer Student Seminar (IDS 109) is the University’s how-to course for life after you transfer. Connect with other transfer students, learn the new environment, and get all of the tips on how to be successful at Illinois State.
